PhD Course: Improving communication and teaching

Titolo del corso:
Improving communication and teaching of mathematical and scientific knowledge: what really matters?
prof. Peter Liljedahl della Simon Fraser University (http://www.peterliljedahl.com/)

Giorni: 4,5,6 Aprile 2016

Descrizione del corso:
The communication (and teaching) of science and mathematics is of utmost importance to all of us. Our ability to effectively communicate (teach) science and mathematics to our citizens, both young and old, is vital for the well-being of our collective society. Every one of us will at some point teach science and/or mathematics and many of us will teach teachers to teach within these fields. Even the presentation of our research results is heavily dependent on, and implicated in, our ability to teach and communicate.
In this course we will explore what it means to teach science and mathematics through an exploration of a variety of theoretical lenses culminating in the presentation and analysis of contemporary theories and methods of teaching for thinking. Participants will leave this course with a set of critical lenses to more adeptly think about teaching, both as a theoretical construct and a human activity.
The course will be constructed around Brent Davis' book Inventions of Teaching coupled with a number of select readings. All reading material will be supplied.
The course will basically require students, in groups of 2 or 3, to read various chapters and to present these to the class as a whole.

Il corso si terrà in lingua inglese.
La partecipazione al corso è gratuita.
